양측 대칭 신경계는 두 거울상 절반 사이에 칸막이를 설정하는 특수한 중간선 구조를 가지고 있습니다. 일부 축삭은 중간선에서 방출되는 장거리 화학유인물질에 반응하여 중간선을 향해 또는 가로질러 투사됩니다. 이 유전자의 산물은 면역글로불린 유전자 슈퍼패밀리의 구성원이며, 축삭 유도 및 신경 전구 세포 이동에 기능하는 막 단백질을 인코딩합니다. 이 수용체는 SLIT 계열 단백질에 의해 활성화되어 발달 중인 뇌에서 교종 세포 유도에 대한 억제 효과를 유발합니다. 관련 유전자는 3번 염색체의 인접한 영역에 위치합니다. 이 유전자에는 다른 이소형을 인코딩하는 여러 전사 변이체가 발견되었습니다.
