이 유전자는 수용체-상호작용 단백질(RIP) 계열의 세린/트레오닌 단백질 키나아제 구성원을 인코딩합니다. 인코딩된 단백질은 조직 손상, 병원체 인식 및 발달 조절의 일부로서 염증 및 세포 사멸에 중요한 역할을 합니다. RIPK1/RIPK3 키나아제 매개 괴사는 괴사성 세포 사멸(necroptosis)이라고 불립니다. 쥐에서 이 유전자의 유전적 파괴는 출생 직후 사망을 초래합니다.
