이 유전자에 의해 인코딩된 단백질은 BCL2 계열에 속하며, 이 계열의 구성원들은 동종 또는 이종 이량체를 형성하고 다양한 세포 과정에 관여하는 항세포사멸 또는 전세포사멸 조절자로 작용합니다. 쥐를 대상으로 한 연구에 따르면 이 단백질은 생식 조직에서 제한적으로 발현되며, 일부 항세포사멸 BCL2 단백질과는 강하게 상호작용하지만 전세포사멸 BCL2 단백질과는 전혀 상호작용하지 않으며, 형질감염된 세포에서 세포 사멸을 유도합니다. 따라서 이 단백질은 BCL2 계열의 전세포사멸 구성원을 나타냅니다.
