미토겐 활성화 단백질 키나아제(MAPK) 신호 전달 캐스케이드는 MAPK 또는 세포외 신호 조절 키나아제(ERK), MAPK 키나아제(MKK 또는 MEK), 그리고 MAPK 키나아제 키나아제(MAPKKK 또는 MEKK)를 포함합니다. MAPKK 키나아제/MEKK는 하류 단백질 키나아제인 MAPK 키나아제/MEK를 인산화하고 활성화하며, 이는 다시 MAPK를 활성화합니다. 이러한 신호 전달 캐스케이드의 키나아제는 고도로 보존되어 있으며, 효모, 초파리 및 포유류 세포에 상동체가 존재합니다. MAPKKK5는 11개의 키나아제 서브도메인 모두를 포함하는 1,374개의 아미노산으로 구성됩니다. 노던 블롯 분석은 MAPKKK5 전사체가 인간 심장과 췌장에서 풍부하게 발현됨을 보여줍니다.
