이 항균 유전자는 16번 염색체 q 팔에 군집된 여러 Cys-Cys (CC) 사이토카인 유전자 중 하나입니다. 사이토카인은 면역 조절 및 염증 과정에 관여하는 분비 단백질 계열입니다. CC 사이토카인은 두 개의 인접한 시스테인으로 특징지어지는 단백질입니다. 이 유전자에 의해 인코딩되는 사이토카인은 단핵구, 수지상 세포, 자연 살해 세포 및 만성적으로 활성화된 T 림프구에 대한 화학주성 활성을 나타냅니다. 또한 1차 활성화된 T 림프구에 대해 약한 활성을 보이며, 호중구, 호산구 및 휴지기 T 림프구에 대해서는 화학유인 활성이 없습니다. 이 유전자의 산물은 케모카인 수용체 CCR4에 결합합니다. 이 케모카인은 활성화된 T 림프구가 염증 부위로 이동하는 것과 활성화된 T 림프구 생리의 다른 측면에서 역할을 할 수 있습니다.
