이 유전자는 인테그린 알파 M 사슬을 인코딩합니다. 인테그린은 알파 사슬과 베타 사슬로 구성된 이종이량체 막 단백질입니다. 이 I-도메인 함유 알파 인테그린은 베타 2 사슬(ITGB2)과 결합하여 대식세포 수용체 1('Mac-1') 또는 비활성화된 C3b(iC3b) 수용체 3('CR3')으로 불리는 백혈구 특이적 인테그린을 형성합니다. 알파 M 베타 2 인테그린은 자극된 내피에 호중구와 단핵구의 부착 및 보체 코팅 입자의 식세포 작용에 중요합니다. 이 유전자에서는 다른 이소폼을 인코딩하는 여러 전사 변이체가 발견되었습니다.
