이 유전자는 열 유도성 및 구성적으로 발현되는 구성원을 모두 포함하는 열충격 단백질 70 계열의 구성원을 인코딩합니다. 이 단백질은 후자 그룹에 속하며, 열충격 상동 단백질(heat-shock cognate proteins)이라고도 불립니다. 샤페론으로 기능하며, 신생 폴리펩타이드에 결합하여 올바른 접힘을 촉진합니다. 또한 세포를 통한 막 구성 요소 수송 중 클라트린 코팅 소포의 해체에서 ATPase로 기능합니다. 이 유전자에서 다른 이소형을 인코딩하는 대안적으로 스플라이싱된 전사체 변이형이 발견되었습니다.
