그라눌린은 고도로 보존된 12-시스테인 그라눌린/에피텔린 모티프의 7.5회 반복을 가진 단일 전구체 단백질로부터 절단되는 분비성, 당화 펩타이드 계열입니다. 88 kDa 전구체 단백질인 프로그라눌린은 프로에피텔린 및 PC 세포 유래 성장 인자로도 불립니다. 신호 펩타이드의 절단은 성숙한 그라눌린을 생성하며, 이는 다양한 활성 6 kDa 펩타이드로 추가 절단될 수 있습니다. 이 작은 절단 산물은 그라눌린 A, 그라눌린 B, 그라눌린 C 등으로 명명됩니다. 에피텔린 1과 2는 각각 그라눌린 A와 B의 동의어입니다. 펩타이드와 온전한 그라눌린 단백질 모두 세포 성장을 조절합니다. 그러나 그라눌린 단백질 계열의 다른 구성원은 세포 성장에 대한 억제제, 자극제 또는 이중 작용을 할 수 있습니다. 그라눌린 계열 구성원은 정상적인 발달, 상처 치유 및 종양 형성에서 중요합니다.
