이 유전자는 7번 염색체 장완에 군집된 두 개의 Cys-Cys (CC) 사이토카인 유전자 중 하나입니다. 사이토카인은 면역 조절 및 염증 과정에 관여하는 분비 단백질 계열입니다. CC 사이토카인은 두 개의 인접한 시스테인으로 특징지어지는 단백질입니다. 이 유전자에 의해 인코딩되는 사이토카인은 정상 말초 혈액 호산구 및 호염기구에 대한 화학주성 활성을 나타냅니다. 이 단백질은 또한 항균 활성을 가지며, S. pneumoniae, S. aureus, Non-typeable H. influenzae 및 P. aeruginosa에 대한 항균 효과를 나타냅니다. 이 유전자의 산물은 케모카인 수용체 CCR3을 특이적으로 활성화하는 세 가지 관련 케모카인 중 하나입니다. 이 케모카인은 아토피 질환에서 호산구 축적에 기여할 수 있습니다.
