이 항균 유전자는 17번 염색체 q-팔에 군집된 여러 Cys-Cys (CC) 사이토카인 유전자 중 하나입니다. 사이토카인은 면역 조절 및 염증 과정에 관여하는 분비 단백질 계열입니다. CC 사이토카인은 두 개의 인접한 시스테인으로 특징지어지는 단백질입니다. 이 유전자에 의해 인코딩되는 사이토카인은 단핵구, 림프구, 호염기구 및 호산구에 대한 화학주성 활성을 나타내지만 호중구에는 나타내지 않습니다. 이 케모카인은 염증 중 백혈구 축적에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 또한 죽상동맥경화증 중 동맥벽으로의 단핵구 모집에도 관여할 수 있습니다.
