이 유전자가 인코딩하는 단백질은 비콜라겐성 세포외 기질(ECM) 단백질입니다. 이 단백질은 각각 EGF 유사 도메인과 칼슘 결합(트롬보스폰딘 유사) 도메인을 가진 5개의 동일한 당단백질 서브유닛으로 구성됩니다. 5가닥의 코일 코일 형성 및 이황화 결합을 통해 올리고머화가 일어납니다. 콜라겐과 같은 다른 ECM 단백질과의 결합은 2가 양이온에 의존하는 것으로 보입니다. 5개의 아스파르트산 반복 서열의 수축 또는 확장 및 기타 돌연변이는 가성연골무형성증(PSACH) 및 다발성 골단 이형성증(MED)을 유발할 수 있습니다.
