중심체는 염색체의 유사분열 행동을 결정하는 분화된 염색체 영역입니다. 이 유전자는 중심체로의 표적화에 필요한 히스톤 H3 관련 히스톤 폴드 도메인을 포함하는 중심체 단백질을 인코딩합니다. 중심체 단백질 A는 핵소체 입자의 (H3-H4)2 사량체 코어에서 기존 히스톤 H3의 1개 또는 2개 모두를 대체하는 변형된 핵소체 또는 핵소체 유사 구조의 구성 요소로 제안됩니다. 이 단백질은 히스톤 H3 계열의 구성원인 복제 비의존성 히스톤입니다. 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 서로 다른 이형 단백질을 인코딩하는 여러 전사 변이체가 생성됩니다.
