BRCA1과 이 유전자 BRCA2의 유전성 돌연변이는 유방암 또는 난소암 발병 위험을 증가시킵니다. BRCA1과 BRCA2는 모두 게놈 안정성 유지, 특히 이중 가닥 DNA 복구를 위한 상동 재조합 경로에 관여합니다. 두 유전자 모두에서 가장 큰 엑손은 엑손 11이며, 유방암 환자에서 가장 중요하고 빈번한 돌연변이가 발생합니다. BRCA2 유전자는 인간의 13q12.3 염색체에서 발견되었습니다. BRCA2 단백질은 BRC motif라고 불리는 70개 아미노산 모티프를 여러 개 포함하며, 이 모티프는 DNA 복구에 기능하는 RAD51 재조합효소와의 결합을 매개합니다.
