이 유전자는 보체 캐스케이드 조절에 관여하는 당단백질을 인코딩합니다. 인코딩된 단백질이 보체 단백질에 결합하면 이들의 붕괴를 가속화하여 캐스케이드를 방해하고 숙주 세포 손상을 방지합니다. 이 단백질에 존재하는 항원은 Cromer 혈액형 시스템(CROM)을 구성합니다. 대체 스플라이싱은 여러 전사 변이체를 생성합니다. 우세한 전사 변이체는 막 결합 단백질을 인코딩하지만, 대체 스플라이싱된 전사체는 가용성 단백질을 생성할 수 있습니다.
