이 유전자가 인코딩하는 단백질은 사이토카인 자극 내피 세포에서 발견되며, 세포가 혈관 내벽에 부착하는 것을 매개하여 염증 부위에 혈액 백혈구가 축적되는 원인으로 생각됩니다. 이 단백질은 렉틴 및 EGF 유사 도메인과 6개의 보존된 시스테인 잔기를 포함하는 짧은 합의 반복(SCR) 도메인과 같은 구조적 특징을 나타냅니다. 이 단백질들은 세포 접착 분자의 셀렉틴 계열의 일부입니다. 접착 분자는 백혈구와 내피 사이의 상호작용에 참여하며 죽상동맥경화증의 병인에 관여하는 것으로 보입니다.
