이 유전자는 펩티다아제 S1 계열의 세린 단백질 분해 효소 구성원을 인코딩합니다. 인코딩된 전구단백질은 단백질 분해 과정을 거쳐 성숙한 단백질 분해 효소를 형성하기 위해 이종이합체화되는 A 및 B 사슬을 생성합니다. 이 단백질 분해 효소는 보체 시스템의 렉틴 경로에서 C3 전환효소를 생성하기 위해 보체 구성 요소 C2와 C4를 절단합니다. 인코딩된 단백질 분해 효소는 또한 프로트롬빈을 절단하여 트롬빈을 형성함으로써 응고 캐스케이드에서도 역할을 합니다. 심근경색 및 급성 뇌졸중 환자는 인코딩된 단백질의 혈청 농도가 감소된 것을 보입니다. 대체 스플라이싱은 여러 전사 변이체를 생성하며, 그 중 적어도 하나는 단백질 분해 과정을 거치는 이소폼을 인코딩합니다.
