유전자 개요

YY1은 징크핑거(zinc finger) 단백질의 GLI-Kruppel 계열에 속하며 거의 모든 조직에 보편적으로 분포하는 전사인자(transcription factor)이다. 다양한 프로모터(promoter)의 발현을 억제하기도 하고 활성화하기도 한다. 프로모터를 활성화하거나 억제하기 위해 히스톤 탈아세틸화효소(histone deacetylase)와 히스톤 아세틸전이효소(histone acetyltransferase)를 해당 프로모터로 끌어들일 수 있어, 그 기능에 히스톤 변형(histone modification)이 관여함을 시사한다.
