WFDC1 유전자는 WAP-type four disulfide core domain 계열 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 단백질의 WAP-type four-disulfide core domain은 8개의 시스테인을 포함하며, 단백질 중심부에 4개의 이황화 결합을 형성한다. 이 유전자는 종양, 특히 전립선암, 유방암, 간세포암 및 윌름스 종양 등에서 자주 상동성 소실이 일어나는 16번 염색체 장완 24번 영역에 위치한다. 또한, WFDC1 유전자는 여러 암종에서 발현이 감소하며 세포 증식 억제에 관여할 가능성이 있다.
