유전자 개요
VWF는 지혈(hemostasis)에 관여하는 당단백질(glycoprotein)을 암호화한다. 암호화된 전구단백질(preproprotein)은 큰 다량체 복합체로 조립된 후 단백질분해 과정을 거치며, 이 복합체는 혈관 손상 부위에 혈소판이 부착되도록 돕고 혈액 내 여러 단백질을 운반하는 기능을 한다. VWF의 돌연변이는 유전성 출혈 질환인 폰 빌레브란트병(von Willebrand disease)을 유발하며, 처리되지 않은 위유전자(pseudogene)가 22번 염색체에서 발견되었다.
