유전자 개요
VCP는 AAA ATPase 단백질 패밀리에 속하는 단백질을 암호화하며, 이 단백질은 단백질 분해, 세포 내 막(membrane) 융합, DNA 복구 및 복제(replication), 세포 주기(cell cycle) 조절, NF-kappa B 경로 활성화에 관여한다. 또한 다양한 보조인자(cofactor)와 상호작용하는 동종 육량체(homohexamer) 복합체를 형성해 지질 막이나 단백질 복합체로부터 유비퀴틴화된 단백질을 추출한다. VCP 유전자의 돌연변이는 인간 환자에서 IBMPFD(골 파제트병 및 전두측두엽 치매를 동반한 봉입체 근육병증), 근위축성 측삭경화증(ALS), 샤르코-마리-투스병(Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease)을 유발한다.
