단백질에 유비퀴틴(ubiquitin)을 부착하는 것은 비정상적이거나 수명이 짧은 단백질을 분해하도록 표적화하는 중요한 세포 기전입니다. 유비퀴틴화(ubiquitination) 과정에는 최소 세 종류의 효소(enzyme)가 관여하는데, 이는 유비퀴틴 활성화 효소, 유비퀴틴 결합 효소, 유비퀴틴-단백질 결찰 효소입니다. 이 유전자는 E2 유비퀴틴 결합 효소 계열의 구성원을 암호화합니다. 이 효소는 복제 후 DNA 손상 복구에 필요하며, 전사 조절에도 역할을 할 수 있습니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 인지 장애와 관련이 있습니다. 대체 스플라이싱은 여러 전사 변이체를 생성합니다.
