이 유전자는 유비퀴틴(ubiquitin) 접합 과정의 첫 단계를 촉매하여 단백질을 분해 표지한다. 이 유전자는 DNA 합성의 X 염색체 연관 마우스 온도 민감성 결함을 보완하며, 따라서 DNA 복구에 기능할 수 있다. 이 유전자는 Xp11.23 염색체 상의 유전자 군집에 속해 있다. 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 대체 전사체 변이체들이 보고되었다. [RefSeq 제공, 2008년 7월]
