이 유전자는 이중 전사 인자(transcription factor)인 Tubby 계열의 구성원을 암호화한다. 암호화된 단백질은 비만 및 감각신경 퇴화에 관여할 수 있다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)를 암호화하는 두 개의 전사 변이체(transcript variant)가 확인되었다.
