TRPM1 유전자는 transient receptor potential(TRP) 채널의 melastatin 하위 계열 구성원을 암호화합니다. 암호화된 단백질은 멜라닌 세포에서 발현되는 칼슘 투과성 양이온 채널이며, 멜라닌 합성에 관여할 수 있습니다. 이 유전자의 특정 돌연변이는 상염색체 열성 완전 선천성 정지 야맹증-1C(autosomal recessive complete congenital stationary night blindness-1C)의 원인입니다. 이 단백질의 발현은 흑색종(melanoma)의 공격성과 반비례하며, 흑색종(melanoma) 전이의 예후 표지자로 사용됩니다. 대안적 스플라이싱은 여러 전사체 변이를 생성합니다.
