이 유전자는 신경영양 티로신 키나아제 수용체(NTKR) 계열의 구성원을 암호화한다. 이 키나아제는 신경영양인자 결합 시 자신과 MAPK 경로 구성원을 인산화하는 막 결합 수용체이다. 이 키나아제의 존재는 세포 분화를 유도하며 감각 신경 세포 아형을 지정하는 역할을 할 수 있다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 선천성 무통각증, 무한증, 자해 행동, 인지 장애 및 암과 관련이 있다. 이 유전자의 다양한 전사 스플라이싱 변이체가 발견되었으나, 현재까지 세 가지만 특성화되었다.
