유전자 개요

이 유전자는 전사(transcription) 과정에서 DNA의 위상학적 상태(topologic states)를 조절하고 변화시키는 효소인 DNA 위상이성질화효소(DNA topoisomerase)를 암호화한다. 이 효소는 DNA 단일 가닥을 일시적으로 절단하고 재결합시켜 가닥들이 서로 통과할 수 있도록 함으로써 초나선(supercoil)의 수를 줄이고 DNA의 위상(topology)을 변화시킨다. 또한 이 효소는 BLM 단백질과 복합체를 형성하여 체세포(somatic cells)에서의 재조합(recombination) 조절에 관여하며, 선택적 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)에 의해 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 다수의 전사체 변이체(transcript variants)이 생성된다.
