이 유전자는 다양한 톨 유사 수용체(Toll-like receptor, TLR) 신호 전달 경로 구성 요소와 상호작용하는 유비퀴틴(ubiquitin)-결합 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 염증 신호 전달을 조절하며, 인터루킨-1 수용체(interleukin-1 receptor)의 이동과 IL1R 관련 키나아제(IL1R-associated kinase)의 전환에 관여한다. 이 유전자에 대해 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variant)가 발견되었다.
