유전자 개요

이 유전자는 종양 괴사 인자(TNF) 리간드 계열에 속하는 사이토카인 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 내피세포에서 풍부하게 발현되지만, B세포나 T세포에서는 발현되지 않는다. TNF와 IL-1 알파에 의해 발현이 유도될 수 있다. 이 사이토카인은 수용체 TNFRSF25 및 디코이 수용체 TNFRSF21/DR6에 대한 리간드로 작용한다. NF-kappaB와 MAP 키나아제를 활성화할 수 있으며, 내피세포에서 세포자멸사를 유도하는 자가분비인자로 작용한다. 또한 내피세포 증식을 억제하는 것으로 알려져 있어, 혈관신생 저해제로 기능할 수 있다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 이성질체를 암호화하는 두 개의 전사체 변이가 발견되었다.
