이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 TNF 수용체 슈퍼패밀리(TNF-receptor superfamily)의 구성원입니다. 이 수용체는 종양 괴사 인자 관련 세포자멸사 유도 리간드(TNFSF10/TRAIL)에 의해 활성화되어 세포 사멸 신호를 전달하고 세포 사멸(apoptosis)을 유도합니다. FADD 결핍 마우스 연구에 따르면, 사멸 도메인 함유 어댑터 단백질인 FADD가 이 단백질에 의해 매개되는 세포 사멸에 필요합니다.
