유전자 개요
이 유전자는 병원체 인식과 선천 면역 활성화에 근본적인 역할을 하는 톨유사수용체(Toll-like receptor, TLR) 계열 단백질을 암호화한다. TLR 계열 단백질들은 초파리부터 인간까지 종간 보존성이 높으며 구조적, 기능적으로 유사하다. 이들은 감염성 병원체에 발현되는 병원체 연관 분자 패턴(pathogen-associated molecular patterns, PAMPs)을 인식하여 효과적인 면역 발달에 필요한 사이토카인(cytokine) 생성을 매개한다. 이 유전자는 주로 폐와 말초 혈액 백혈구에서 발현되며, X 염색체에서 또 다른 계열 구성원인 TLR7과 가까이 위치한다.
