이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 태반과 탯줄의 내피세포(endothelial cells)에서 거의 독점적으로 발견됩니다. 암호화된 단백질은 알파-V 베타-3 인테그린(alpha(V)beta(3) integrin) 및 팍실린(paxillin)과 상호작용하여 내피세포 이동 및 튜브 형성을 억제하는 것으로 보입니다. 이 단백질은 세포 골격 조직화(cytoskeletal organization)에 관여할 수 있습니다. 이 유전자의 변이는 골다공증(osteoporosis)에서 낮은 골밀도(bone mineral density)와 관련될 수 있습니다.
