이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 이황화결합으로 연결된 균일 삼량체 단백질의 소단위체이다. 이 단백질은 세포-세포 및 세포-기질 상호작용을 매개하는 부착성 당단백질(glycoprotein)이다. 또한 피브리노겐, 피브로넥틴, 라미닌, 제V형 콜라겐 및 인테그린 알파-V/베타-1에 결합할 수 있다. 이 단백질은 혈소판(platelet) 응집, 혈관신생 및 종양 형성에 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있다.
