유전자 개요

TF는 약 76.5 kDa의 당단백질(glycoprotein)을 암호화한다. 이 당단백질은 고대 유전자 중복(gene duplication)으로 생성된 것으로 추정되며, 그 결과 각각 제2철 이온(ferric iron) 하나와 결합하는 상동성 C-말단 및 N-말단 도메인을 갖추게 되었다. 단백질은 장, 망상내피계(reticuloendothelial system), 간 실질세포에서 체내 모든 증식 세포로 철을 운반하며, 혈청에서 특정 유기물과 알레르겐을 제거하는 과립구/꽃가루 결합 단백질(GPBP)로서의 생리적 역할도 할 수 있는 것으로 여겨진다.
