TECTB 유전자는 내이(inner ear)의 달팽이관(cochlea)에 있는 청각 유모세포(auditory hair cells)를 덮는 구조인 이소막(tectorial membrane)의 비콜라젠성 당단백질(glycoprotein) 구성 성분을 암호화한다. 쥐에서 유사한 단백질은 저주파 청각 기능에 관여한다.
