유전자 개요

TBX21은 공통 DNA 결합 도메인인 T-box를 공유하는, 계통발생적으로 보존된 유전자군에 속하며, 이 유전자군은 발달 과정 조절에 관여하는 전사인자(transcription factor)를 암호화한다. TBX21은 마우스 Tbx21/Tbet 유전자의 인간 오솔로그(ortholog)로, 마우스 연구에서 그 단백질은 대표적 Th1 사이토카인(cytokine)인 인터페론-감마(interferon-gamma, IFNG)의 발현을 조절하는 Th1 세포 특이적 전사인자로 밝혀졌다. 인간 오쏠로그의 발현 역시 Th1 세포와 자연살해세포(natural killer cell)에서 IFNG 발현과 상관관계를 보이며, 이는 미감작 Th 전구세포(naive Th precursor cell)로부터 Th1 계통 발달을 개시하는 역할을 시사한다.
