유전자 개요

SRY는 인트론이 없는 유전자로, DNA 결합 단백질의 고이동성군(high mobility group, HMG)-box 계열에 속하는 전사인자(transcription factor)를 암호화한다. 이 전사인자는 남성의 성 결정을 개시하는 고환결정인자(testis-determining factor, TDF)로 작용한다. SRY의 돌연변이는 생식샘 발생이상(gonadal dysgenesis)을 동반한 XY 여성, 즉 스와이어 증후군(Swyer syndrome)을 유발하며, SRY를 포함한 Y 염색체 일부가 X 염색체로 전좌(translocation)되면 XX 남성 증후군(XX male syndrome)이 발생한다.
