유전자 개요

SMAD3 단백질은 TGF-beta(transforming growth factor-beta) 신호 전달 경로에서 작용하여 세포 표면에서 세포핵(nucleus)으로 신호를 전달하고, 유전자 활성과 세포 증식을 조절한다. 이 단백질은 다른 SMAD 단백질들과 복합체를 형성하고 DNA에 결합하여 전사인자(transcription factor)와 종양 억제인자(tumor suppressor)로 기능한다. 이 유전자의 변이는 동맥류-골관절염 증후군(aneurysms-osteoarthritis syndrome)과 Loeys-Dietz 증후군 3형(Loeys-Dietz Syndrome 3)과 관련이 있다.
