유전자 개요
이 유전자는 세린 단백질분해효소(serine protease)로부터 상피 세포 조직을 보호하는 분비성 저해제(inhibitor)를 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 정액, 자궁 경부 점액, 기관지 분비물을 포함한 다양한 분비물에서 발견되며, 트립신(trypsin), 백혈구 엘라스테이스(leukocyte elastase), 카텝신 G(cathepsin G)에 대한 친화성을 가진다. 이의 저해 작용은 내인성 단백질 분해 효소의 공격으로부터 상피 표면을 보호함으로써 면역 반응에 기여한다. 이 항균 단백질은 항균(antibacterial), 항진균(antifungal), 항바이러스(antiviral) 활성을 나타낸다.
