다양한 내인성 소분자 유기 양이온 및 다수의 약물과 환경 독소의 제거에 간, 신장, 장 등에서 작용하는 다중 특이성 유기 양이온 수송체가 필수적입니다. 이 유전자는 염색체 6번의 클러스터에 위치한 세 개의 유사한 양이온 수송체 유전자 중 하나입니다. 이 유전자에서 암호화된 단백질은 12개의 추정 막횡단 도메인을 포함하며, 이는 플라스마 막 단백질입니다. 두 개의 전사체 변이체(transcript variant)가 두 개의 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 것으로 발견되었지만, 긴 변이체만이 기능적 수송체를 암호화합니다.
