유전자 개요
이 유전자는 용질 운반체 단백질 계열의 구성원을 지정한다. 이 막-결합 단백질은 중추신경계의 시냅스에서 세포외 공간의 흥분성 신경전달물질인 글루탐산(glutamate)을 제거하는 주요 운반체이다. 글루탐산 제거는 적절한 시냅스 활성화와 글루탐산 수용체의 과활성화로 인한 신경 손상을 방지하기 위해 필요하다. 이 유전자의 부적절한 조절은 여러 신경 질환과 관련이 있을 것으로 생각된다. 이 유전자에서 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체들이 확인되었다.
