이 유전자는 SCF 복합체의 구성 요소를 암호화하며, 이 복합체는 이 단백질, cullin 1, RING-box 단백질, 그리고 F-box 패밀리 단백질 중 하나로 구성됩니다. 해당 단백질은 F-box 단백질에서 발견되는 F-box 모티프에 직접 결합합니다. SCF 복합체는 특정 단백질 기질의 조절된 유비퀴틴화에 관여하며, 이는 단백질을 프로테아좀에 의한 분해 대상으로 지정합니다. 특정 F-box 단백질은 서로 다른 표적 단백질을 인식하며, 세포 주기 조절 및 발달과 같은 많은 특정 SCF 기질이 확인되었습니다. 이 단백질은 RNA 중합효소 II 신장 인자(RNA polymerase II elongation factor)로도 특징지어졌습니다. 이 유전자의 대체 스플라이싱은 두 가지 전사 변이를 초래합니다. 관련 유사 위유전자(pseudogene)가 염색체 7에서 확인되었습니다.
