SIGLEC9은 단당(monosaccharide) 및 시알산(sialic acid) 결합 활성을 가지며 세포 부착(cell adhesion)에 관여할 것으로 예측된다. 이 유전자는 염증 반응(inflammatory response)과 식작용(phagocytosis) 및 삼켜짐(engulfment)의 음성 조절(negative regulation) 상류 또는 그 과정에서 작용할 것으로 예측된다. 또한 세포막(plasma membrane)의 외측에 위치하고 세포막에서 활성을 나타낼 것으로 예측된다.
