이 유전자에 의해 암호화되는 단백질은 사이토카인(cytokine)이 자극한 혈관내피(endothelium) 세포에서 발견됩니다. 해당 단백질은 혈액 내 백혈구(leukocyte)가 염증(inflammation) 부위에 축적되는 것을 매개하여 세포가 혈관 표면에 부착되도록 합니다. 이 단백질은 6개의 보존된 시스테인 잔기를 포함하는 렉틴(lectin) 유사 도메인과 EGF 유사 도메인, 그리고 짧은 컨센서스 반복(SCR) 도메인을 특징으로 합니다. 이 단백질들은 세포 부착 분자(cell adhesion molecule)인 셀렉틴(selectin) 계열에 속합니다.
