유전자 개요

이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 막관통형(1형) 헤파란 황산 프로테오글리칸(heparan sulfate proteoglycan)으로, 신데칸 프로테오글리칸(syndecan proteoglycan) 계열에 속한다. 신데칸은 세포 결합, 세포 신호 전달, 세포 골격 조직화 등을 매개하며, 신데칸 수용체는 HIV-1 tat 단백질의 세포 내 도입에 필요하다. 신데칸-2 단백질은 막 단백질(integral membrane protein)로서 세포 증식, 세포 이동, 세포-기질 상호작용에 관여하며, 세포 외 기질 단백질에 대한 수용체 역할을 한다. 신데칸-2의 발현 변화는 여러 종양 유형에서 발견되었다.
