유전자 개요
이 유전자는 아포지단백질(apolipoprotein)인 혈청 아밀로이드 A(serum amyloid A) 계열 구성원을 암호화한다. 생성된 성숙 단백질은 염증 및 조직 손상에 반응하여 높은 수준으로 발현되는 주요 급성기 반응 단백질(acute phase protein)이다. 이 단백질은 또한 HDL 대사 및 콜레스테롤 항상성에 중요한 역할을 한다. 류머티스 관절염을 포함한 만성 염증성 질환에서 이 단백질의 높은 수치가 관찰된다. 마지막으로, 성숙 단백질의 N-말단 부분은 S. aureus 및 E. coli에 대한 항균 활성을 가진다.
