유전자 개요

이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 2개의 EF-hand 칼슘 결합 모티프를 포함하는 S100 단백질 계열에 속한다. S100 단백질은 광범위한 세포의 세포질 및/또는 세포핵에 위치하며, 세포 주기 진행 및 분화와 같은 다양한 세포 과정 조절에 관여한다. S100 유전자들은 염색체 1q21에 군집을 이루는 최소 13개의 구성원을 포함하지만, 이 유전자는 4p16에 위치한다. 이 단백질은 Ca2+ 결합 외에 Zn2+ 및 Mg2+도 결합한다. 본 단백질은 전립선암의 병인론에서 역할을 할 수 있다.
