유전자 개요

리보솜은 단백질 번역(translation)을 촉매하는 소기관으로, 40S 소단위체와 60S 대단위체로 구성됩니다. 이들 소단위체는 4가지 RNA 종과 약 80개의 구조적으로 구별되는 단백질로 이루어져 있습니다. 이 유전자는 40S 소단위체의 구성 요소인 리보솜 단백질을 지정합니다. 이 단백질은 리보솜 단백질의 S13P 계열에 속하며 세포질(cytoplasm)에 위치합니다. 대장균(E. coli) 오솔로그(ortholog)의 유전자 산물은 fMet-tRNA 결합 및 번역 개시에 관여합니다. 이 유전자는 마우스 Ke3의 오쏠로그입니다. 리보솜 단백질을 암호화하는 유전자에서 흔히 그렇듯이, 이 유전자의 여러 처리된 유사유전자(processed pseudogene)가 게놈 전체에 흩어져 있습니다.
