RPLP2는 60S 리보좀(ribosome) 아단위(subunit)를 구성하는 인단백질(phosphoprotein)을 암호화하며, 단백질(protein) 합성의 신장(elongation) 단계에서 중요한 역할을 한다. 이 단백질은 세포질(cytoplasm)에 위치하고, P0 및 P1과 상호작용하여 P1 이량체(dimer)와 P2 이량체(dimer), P0 단위체(monomer)로 구성된 5량체 복합체(pentameric complex)를 형성한다. 대부분의 리보좀 단백질(ribosomal protein)과 달리 산성(acidic)을 띠며, 게놈(genome) 전역에 여러 가공형 유사유전자(processed pseudogene)가 흩어져 있다.
