RPL35는 큰 60S 소단위체(large 60S subunit)를 구성하는 리보솜 단백질(ribosomal protein)을 암호화하며, L29P 계열에 속하고 세포질(cytoplasm)에 위치한다. 리보솜은 작은 40S 소단위체와 큰 60S 소단위체로 이루어진 세포소기관으로, 두 소단위체는 4종의 RNA와 구조적으로 구별되는 약 80개의 단백질로 구성되어 단백질 합성을 촉매한다. 리보솜 단백질 유전자에서 흔히 나타나듯, RPL35 역시 여러 개의 처리된 가유전자(processed pseudogenes)가 유전체 전반에 분산되어 있다.
