이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 핵 호르몬 수용체(nuclear hormone receptors)의 NR1 아형에 속한다. 이 단백질은 DNA 결합 단백질로서, 단위체(monomer) 또는 동종이량체(homodimer) 형태로 여러 유전자 상류의 호르몬 반응 요소에 결합하여 해당 유전자들의 발현을 증진시킨다. 암호화된 단백질은 장기 형성 및 분화에 관여하는 뉴클레오사이드 이인산 키나아제(nucleoside diphosphate kinase)인 NM23-2와 상호작용하며, 일부 일주기 리듬 관련 유전자의 발현 조절을 돕는 것으로 알려져 있다.
